By the pliable nature of synthetic forming fabrics, a rich variety of designs have been created.
In flat woven type fabric, the warp, during weaving, is composed of yarn which is referred to as MD yarn. In order to make endless loops, fabrics are joined by connecting the warp yarn at the end of each fabric. FILCON uses automated seaming machines for connecting fabrics.
Single-layer products
This is a 5-shed single-layer fabric woven with extra yarns, giving it properties usually found in double-layer fabrics. The extra yarns provide better sheet side smoothness as well as improved retention. Thanks to its unique structure, it delivers very good drainage and ease of cleaning. This structure, generally referred to as 1.5-layer, is a FILCON’s original design.
1.5-layer products
The structure of our double-layer fabrics is generally a double-layer weft structure; the manufacturing method is the seamed (H) [type]. Compared to single-layer, densities of warp and weft are higher. Double-layer has more dimensional stability but less stretchable. Diameters and material types of sheet-side wefts and machine-side wefts can be selected independently, enabling improvements in wire mark, two-sidedness, flatness, and fabric life. Thanks to the large three-dimensional space (flat spaces are almost zero), our double-layer also provides excellent drainage property. Drainage force does not directly affect the paper layer, which helps improve retention and prevents lint.

To further improve the characteristics of double-layer design, the sheet-side weft density is increased. The result is better sheet support that improves wire mark, retention, and the surface properties of the paper. In addition, the number of weft yarns on the machine side are reduced so that the three-dimensional space (void volume) is increased for enhanced drainage capability. This design is commonly known as 2.5-layer weave, or “EX” weave.
2.5-layer products
The latest generation of triple-layer fabric with WSB design. By increasing surface-yarn density, sheet support and retention are improved while reducing wire marks. With little internal abrasion, FUJI/SAKURA series provides stable performance up to the last stage of fabric life.
Triple-layer products
This modified type of 2.5-layer design delivers enhanced stability in the cross machine direction thanks to its three-ply weft structure. Furthermore, improved drainage is guaranteed because of its increased three-dimensional space.
